How to Speed up My WIndows XP? Keep Your Computer Clean of Viruses and Program Fragments

If you're tired of your slow internet browsing experience, you'll want to read these tips and tricks to learn how to speed up Windows XP. There are a few things you can do to speed up browsing, quicken the boot process, and generally speed up your PC's overall performance.

Don't be afraid of learning new things about your computer. If you're concerned about doing something that may harm your computer in the long run (which we won't be covering here), then I suggest creating a restore point on your computer.

Speed Up Your Boot Process

If you're running on a laptop, an older computer, or just have several programs on your PC, then you might want to be selective on what programs you are running on startup. If you are running too many (unnecessary) programs on startup, then you'll want to follow these steps to speed up your boot process:

1) Clean out your startup folder:
o Go to C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Start Menu\Programs\Startup ("username" is your Windows login name.)
o If you don't want to run a program on startup, delete the shortcut. (note: you're just deleting the shortcut, NOT the program itself)

2) Clean out your Scheduled Tasks folder:
o Go to C:\Windows\Tasks
o Delete the shortcuts of any program you don't want to run on a schedule

Pro Tip: Hold down the "Shift" key during startup to avoid loading ANY programs in the Startup Folder (they will load on next startup, however).

Speed Up Your Browsing with Windows XP

Another excellent tip is to reduce the number of bells and whistles on your browsing windows. This may seem obvious, but it can increase your efficiency measurably.

o Go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > System
o Select the "Advanced" Tab
o Under "Performance" click "Settings"
o Choose which details to keep, or just click "Best Performance"

Windows won't look as flashy, but it will run faster. Definitely click off functions that you don't really notice. Adjust for taste.

Keep Your Computer Clean of Viruses and Program Fragments

I recommend defragmenting your computer regularly, especially if you tend to install and uninstall programs frequently. Viruses, spyware and malware can really bog down a computer and eat up system resources, as well, so you should run antivirus software and maintain firewall protection at all times.

Your registry can also contain errors and fragments that will slow down your PC. Research computer maintenance and learn how you can speed up Windows XP and keep your computer secure.

Optimize-Your-PC can provide you with advanced registry cleaning technology. It will scan, diagnose, clean and speed up Windows XP, leaving you with nothing but a highly-optimized PC.
